Port Fòrum begins work on the reinforcement of the outer dyke, a key infrastructure for the protection and sustainability of the coastline. A strategic project designed to improve coastal protection, guarantee the safety and stability of the dock and promote environmental sustainability in one of the most emblematic areas of the city.
This week we have celebrated together with organizations, institutions, companies and collaborators, the act of placing the first Xbloc© block. Port Fòrum thus becomes the first port in Spain to use this innovative protection system.
This work, aimed at mitigating the effects of storms and anticipating the challenges of climate change, represents a benchmark of modern and resilient infrastructure. With an approximate length of 750 meters and a height of 2.7 meters above sea level (reaching 9.3 meters below sea level), the structure will integrate advanced protection systems such as Xbloc© concrete blocks, designed to provide maximum efficiency and reduce environmental impact.
The optimized geometric shape of the Xbloc© provides greater stability using less material. This makes it possible to significantly reduce the consumption of natural resources and CO₂ emissions during their manufacture, achieving a 40% saving in concrete and a 3,000 ton decrease in CO₂ consumption compared to conventional construction. In addition, its design facilitates more efficient placement, which contributes to the decarbonization of the construction process, shortens execution times by 30% and reduces the impact on the marine environment.
The conception of the project has prioritized ecological and urban criteria, guaranteeing its visual and functional integration with the surroundings of the Forum, a dynamic space for cultural, recreational and civic activity. The design seeks not only to protect the coastline, but also to promote connectivity and harmonious coexistence with the city and the marine ecosystem.
